DPHSS Release No. 2016-10
2016 Dental Health Fair
The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS), in collaboration with the Guam Dental Society (GDS), is sponsoring a Dental Health Fair on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Micronesia Mall Center Court from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm in celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month. This year’s slogan is “Sugar Wars”. A poster contest for students, kindergarten to 5th grade, is also being conducted and the winners will be announced at the Fair. There will be entertainment and prize giveaways.
Dental decay is the most common chronic illness among school-age children and is almost entirely preventable. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), over 100 million Americans fail to go see a dentist each year even though most dental disease can be prevented through regular dental exams and good oral hygiene. This is an opportunity for parents and children to meet with dental professionals to learn more about the importance of good oral hygiene and how to prevent tooth decay. Dentists will be offering free oral exams and orthodontic screenings. There will also be table displays from early childhood programs to inform parents the types of services available to them.
