“2018 Diabetes Alert Day Health Fair”
The Guam Diabetes Control Coalition (GDCC), in collaboration with the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS), the Guam Diabetes Association, and the NCD Consortium will be conducting the “2018 Diabetes Alert Day Health Fair” at the Center Court of Agana Shopping Center, on March 31, 2018, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
Diabetes is a Chronic and Non-Communicable Disease (NCDs) that is known to effect on average 12% of the population on Guam. Another 5.5% do not know they have diabetes or pre-diabetes. There is an increasing prevalence of Type II Diabetes among our younger generation. The goal of the 2018 Diabetes Alert Day Health Fair is to promote and enhance public’s awareness and knowledge on the prevention and control of diabetes.
Diabetes month aims to direct, motivate, and inspire Guamanians to be proactive in preventing diabetes and obesity in our people. It also serves as a reminder for people living with diabetes that assistance is available for managing the disease and preventing further complications.
Free health screening will be provided for blood sugar & cholesterol (while supplies last), blood pressure, body mass index, health educational displays and exhibits from various programs and organizations focusing on health promotion and disease prevention.
Participants of the Government of Guam Worksite Wellness Program are welcome to avail of the free health screening and earn 25 raffle tickets.
