DPHSS Release No. 2017-026
Department of Public Health and Social Services Breastfeeding Room Grand Opening
The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) will hold a grand opening event for the Breastfeeding Room on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. in the Mangilao facility. Nursing mothers are now lawfully protected to breastfeed their children in safe, clean and appropriate public areas without fear of reprisal, hostility or directions to leave the premises. This was made possible by Public Law 32-098, the Nana Yan Patgon Act authored by Senator Aline Yamashita in 2013.
Breastfeeding is recognized as the best possible nutritional source for babies. With rare exceptions, it is a safe, free and highly nutritious method to nourish babies. Breastfeeding also helps to establish stronger bonds between mother and child. Please join us as we celebrate this milestone event in breastfeeding promotion for healthier communities on Guam. This is in tandem with the DPHSS efforts to address Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) on Guam and the region.
