DPHSS Release No. 2018 – 025

DPHSS to Require Food-handlers to attend Refresher Food Safety Training Course when Renewing their Health Certificate

Currently, new applicants seeking Health Certificates for employment at Guam’s food facilities are required to attend and pass the Health Certificate Food Safety Training Course, provided by the Division of Environmental Health, pursuant to the Health Certificate Regulations.  As authorized by §4409(b) of the same regulations, the Division of Environment Health will be expanding the training provision to those food-handlers seeking to renew their Health Certificates.  This will be effective May 1, 2018, but will be applicable for those whose permanent Health Certificates begin to expire on June 1.

This refresher course will be instituted to help reinforce, if not re-educate, the food-handlers’ food safety knowledge to reduce the potential of fooborne illness from occuring and to reduce violations that are observed during compliance inspections of retail food facilties and food manufactures by the inspectors of the Division of Environmental Health.  The cost for the refresher course and renewed Health Certificate will be $25.00.

For information and inquiries, please contact Ms. Grace Bordallo of the Division of Environmental Health at 735-7221.
