Guam Breastfeeding Month August 2015
The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) is pleased to announce that on August 3, 2015, the Honorable Eddie Baza Calvo, Governor of Guam will be proclaiming August as “Guam Breastfeeding Month.” The 2015 theme is “Breastfeeding and Work. Let’s Make It Work!” The Department aims to empower and support all women, working in both the private and public sectors, to adequately combine work with child-rearing, particularly breastfeeding.
DPHSS will be collaborating with the Guam Breastfeeding Committee, the Guam WIC Program, the Non-Communicable Disease Consortium, Guam Community College, University of Guam, and Sagua Mañagu in the 2nd Annual Breastfeeding Awareness Health Fair on August 29, 2015 at the Micronesia Mall Center Court from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to increase awareness of the Guam Public Law 32-098 “Nana Yan Patgon Act” and to stimulate interests and conversations among employers and employees on the relevance of breastfeeding in their workplace. This law was signed by Governor Eddie Baza Calvo in November 2013.
Additionally, radio interviews, public service announcements, and other activities are scheduled throughout the month.
