Guam Child Immunization Week

Guam Child Immunization Week The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) is pleased to announce 2014 National Infant Immunization and World Immunization Week. To celebrate this event DPHSS announces that there will be a free Child Immunization Clinic on Saturday, April 26, 2014, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm or while supplies last, at the Micronesia Mall (C3 near GameStop and Toppy Furniture). Immunization is limited to those with Medicaid, Medicare, MIP, or no insurance.

This clinic is for children 0–18 years of age. All necessary immunizations will be given, except the Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine. Parents must bring their child’s most current shot record and the child’s birth certificate. All children below 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or an adult with a written authorization and photo ID.

DPHSS encourages parents to make their children’s vaccinations are a priority by ensuring that their children follow the prescribed vaccination schedule. By timely vaccinations, this is one of the best ways to protect your children and keep them healthy. Diseases like measles and rubella are occurring in nearby countries. Measles outbreaks are occurring in the Philippines and China, and rubella cases have dramatically increased in Japan.

Giving babies the recommended immunizations by two years of age is the best way to protect them from the 14 serious childhood diseases such as whooping cough and measles. Protecting school aged children from preventable diseases will help keep them healthy so they can remain in school. Children age 4 to 6 years old need boosters for some vaccines, like DTaP, MMR and Polio. Preteens and adolescents also need vaccinations to protect them from diseases like Meningococcal disease and human papillomavirus (HPV). The HPV vaccine is a life-saving vaccine that protects against cervical cancer, HPV-associated sexually transmitted diseases, and other HPV-associated cancers.
