DPHSS Release No. 2016-04

National Children’s Dental Health Month Poster Contest

The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS), in collaboration with the Guam Dental Society, is sponsoring a poster contest to promote good oral health as part of their month long celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month in February.  The contest is open to all students, except children and grandchildren of dentists, enrolled in kindergarten to the fifth grade.

Attitudes and habits established at an early age are critical in maintaining good oral health throughout life.  By participating in the poster contest, children will hopefully realize the importance of good oral health in the prevention of tooth decay by brushing, flossing, eating healthy snacks and visiting the dentist.  This year’s slogan is “Sugar Wars”.

There will be two categories:  (1) Kindergarten to Second Grade and (2) Third to Fifth Grade.  Prizes will be awarded including a new iPad for the first place winner in each category.  Winners will be recognized at the Dental Health Fair that will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Micronesia Mall Center Court from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.

Poster contest entries are due by 5:00 pm on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the DPHSS Dental Clinic in Mangilao.  For more information, please contact Dr. Suzanne Kaneshiro at 735-7364 or via email at suzanne.kaneshiro@dphss.guamdev.com or visit the department website at dphss.guamdev.com.
