DPHSS Release No. 2014-061

The Division of Environmental Health of the Department of Public Health and Social Services, the Guam Food Safety Task Force, and the Environmental Public Health Association, are pleased to announce that we are once again sponsoring a poster contest for Guam students in grades kindergarten through 5th to promote food safety in our island.

The theme for this year’s poster contest is “Crack the CODE to Food Safety,” which was created to bring awareness about the newly adopted Guam Food Code and to promote food safety. The Guam Food Code is the island’s new regulations governing the sanitary operation of retail food establishments.

We believe education on food safety should begin at an early age, and it is hoped that this contest will provide the spark to get schools, parents, teachers, and students interested in the subject. The winning poster will be showcased during the month of September for the 9th Annual Guam Food Safety Education Month 2014.

Poster contest entries are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014. If your child’s teacher or school is not participating, individual entries may be delivered by parents to the Division of Environmental Health offices on the second floor of the Central Public Health Facility in Mangilao.

For further information, please contact the Division of Environmental Health at 473-7221.
