DPHSS Release No. 2014-062
The Division of Environmental Health of the Department of Public Health and Social Services, along with the Guam Food Safety Task Force and the Guam Environmental Public Health Association are pleased to announce that they will be having a proclamation signing on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in the Governor’s Conference Room in Adelup, to proclaim the month of September as the “9th Annual Guam Food Safety Education Month 2014” (GFSEM).
Since earlier this year, the Division of Environmental Health has been introducing and preparing the public for the implementation of the Guam Food Code through its education and awareness campaign entitled Crack the CODE to Food Safety. The Division will continue the campaign during this year’s GFSEM. The Guam Food Code, which was adopted last year, but will not be effective until November of this year, will be Guam’s new regulations for the safe and sanitary operation of all retail food establishments on island.
Some of the events occurring during this September will be the promotion of a food safety poster contest for elementary students, food safety video contest for high school students, a food safety fair for the public at the Micronesia Mall, and training for managers and operators of the island’s retail food establishments on the Guam Food Code.
