DPHSS Release No. 2017-028

Recommendations for Certification of all Medicinal Marijuana Operations

The Department of Public Health and Social Services announces recommendations for Certification of all Medicinal Marijuana Operations.

After discussions with several off-island consultants and a review of some of the certification programs in the United States, the Department has determined that all applicants for Cultivation, Manufacturing, Distribution and Laboratory services, prior to receiving a permit to operate must have demonstrated that they have started the certification process for any of those operations.

The certifications should be from Patient Focused Certification (PFC), a service offered by Americans for Safe Access (ASA).  Information on how to apply for certification, fees and course content can be found at:  www.patientfocusedcertification.org .

It is the Department’s intent to require these certifications by the second year. It is highly recommended that the certifications be accomplished within the first year.
