The Division of Environmental Health of the Department of Public Health and Social Services, along with the Guam Food Safety Task Force and the Environmental
Public Health Association, is sponsoring a video contest for students in 9th through 12th grades to bring awareness of the Guam Food Code and promote food safety.The Guam Food Code, which will become effective in November, will be the island’s new regulations to better govern the sanitary operation of retail food
facilities to lessen the occurrence of foodborne illness.
The Division of Environmental Health will be introducing and preparing the public for the implementation of the Guam Food Code through its education and awarenesscampaign entitled, Crack the CODE to Food Safety. This campaign seeks to “break open” the barrier of unfamiliarity and confusion surrounding the enactment of GuamFood Code in the community, especially the food industry, through various events, such as this video contest with Guam’s talented high school youths.
We are currently in the voting phase on the contest. The top three videos are posted to the Guam Food Safety Education Month Facebook page at www.facebook.com/GFSEM. To vote for your favorite video, click the “Like” button located under the video. Public voting is part of the overall criteria used to select the winning video. Public voting will continue until 11:59 pm on Tuesday, August 19th. Monetary prizes will be awarded and the winning video will be showcased during this year’s9th Annual Guam Food Safety Education Month 2014 in September.
